Does CommBank work in America? ›

Located in New York, the Commonwealth Bank in America offers a comprehensive range of financial services to Australian and New Zealand corporate and institutional clients and also provides North American companies with business connections in Australia and New Zealand.

To avoid roaming charges, call the international operator in the country you're in from a land line and provide them our reverse charges number +61 2 9999 3283.

When you're overseas. So long as you've got internet access, you can log on to NetBank and the CommBank app from anywhere in the world. Not only can you manage your money on-the-go, you can also reload your Travel Money Card in NetBank and the CommBank app if a currency is running low.

Debit Mastercard is accepted at more than 35 million locations worldwide. You can also use it to withdraw cash from any ATM that displays the Maestro, Mastercard or Cirrus logo. If either cards are lost or stolen when you're overseas you can: Cancel and order replacement CommBank cards in NetBank or in the CommBank app.

International Money Transfers

Receive money from overseas straight into your CBA AUD or Foreign Currency Account. This can be done safely and easily by simply quoting our CommBank BIC/SWIFT code, your 14 digit account number and some personal details.

The banks will have no problem retaining you as a customer, even if you are non-resident, and it will not impact your tax residency position. It may also be the best place to hold any AUD cash balances - see the chart below showing term deposit rates, these will normally be more competitive than offshore accounts.

Wanting to send money overseas to friends and family for a special occasion or to cover day-to-day expenses? Need to pay an overseas bill or invoice? You can send an International Money Transfer (IMT) to more than 200 countries, in over 30 currencies from the CommBank app, NetBank or at your nearest branch.

You can use the service in most countries but some don't allow encrypted data to be sent over a public phone network.

Log on to the CommBank app. Tap the Help icon in the top-right corner. Tap 'Message Now' to message us and chat to our virtual assistant, Ceba.

For security reasons your default International Transfer limit is $0. You can update your daily limit up to $5,000 in NetBank and the CommBank app. If you'd like to send a higher payment amount, message us or visit your nearest branch.

Tell us before you go

Log on to NetBank or the CommBank app to tell us when and where you're going. We can keep an eye out for any suspicious activity on your accounts and credit cards while you're away.

You get charged every time you withdraw cash from an ATM or pay for items with your Debit Mastercard or Keycard overseas or where there is an overseas connection. International transaction fee: 3.5% of the transaction value.

Cross Border payments allows you to securely use your debit card at approximately 2 million retailers in the U.S.

Correspondent bank accounts

A bank from your country has a partner bank in the US. Your bank can help you set up an account in the US. Even without a physical location in the US, your home bank can still assist you. Once set up, you can do wire transfers, deposits, and other financial transactions.
