Future Value of $100 in 10 Years (2024)

Calculating the future value of $100 over the next 10 years allows you to see how much your principal will grow based on the compounding interest.

So if you want to save $100 for 10 years, you would want to know approximately how much that investment would be worth at the end of the period.

To do this, we can use the future value formula below:

$$FV = PV \times (1 + r)^{n}$$

We already have two of the three required variables to calculate this:

  • Present Value (FV): This is the original $100 to be invested
  • n: This is the number of periods, which is 10 years

The final variable we need to do this calculation is r, which is the rate of return for the investment. With some investments, the interest rate might be given up front, while others could depend on performance (at which point you might want to look at a range of future values to assess whether the investment is a good option).

In the table below, we have calculated the future value (FV) of $100 over 10 years for expected rates of return from 2% to 30%.

The table below shows the present value (PV) of $100 in 10 years for interest rates from 2% to 30%.

As you will see, the future value of $100 over 10 years can range from $121.90 to $1,378.58.

Discount Rate Present Value Future Value
2% $100 $121.90
3% $100 $134.39
4% $100 $148.02
5% $100 $162.89
6% $100 $179.08
7% $100 $196.72
8% $100 $215.89
9% $100 $236.74
10% $100 $259.37
11% $100 $283.94
12% $100 $310.58
13% $100 $339.46
14% $100 $370.72
15% $100 $404.56
16% $100 $441.14
17% $100 $480.68
18% $100 $523.38
19% $100 $569.47
20% $100 $619.17
21% $100 $672.75
22% $100 $730.46
23% $100 $792.59
24% $100 $859.44
25% $100 $931.32
26% $100 $1,008.57
27% $100 $1,091.53
28% $100 $1,180.59
29% $100 $1,276.14
30% $100 $1,378.58

This is the most commonly used FV formula which calculates the compound interest on the new balance at the end of the period. Some investments will add interest at the beginning of the new period, while some might have continuous compounding, which again would require a slightly different formula.
