The index tracks the accumulation of regular cash dividends on a quarterly and annual basis and resets to zero after the expiration of the quarterly or leading December contracts. The annual index is estimated to grow by 6% in 2024 as its constituents, S&P 500 companies, continue to increase dividends.

It can be derived by dividing the total index quantities by the index divisor. As noted in the MSCI Index Calculation methodology, Index Dividend Points express dividends paid in an index unit for a given day. They represent dividends as a fraction of the index level itself.
