Alan Wake 2 Reveals Night Springs DLC, Launches Tomorrow

Alan Wake 2's Night Springs DLC is launching tomorrow, letting us play as three characters from across the Remedyverse.

The first episode and third set their own unique tales, but the second one, North Star, has some of the only true puzzles in the DLC. This episode focuses on Jesse Faden, the protagonist from the Remedy game Control, visiting Coffee World in search of her brother. It all starts with a code at the gate and only gets more spooky as it goes on.

How To Get The Gate Code At Coffee World

At first, it looks like there isn't much to use when Jesse arrives at Coffee World. The gate is locked with a digital number lock, with three digits needed to open.

To find the code, go to the small booth to the left of the gate. In the booth, there will be a sheet of paper listing lots of codes for the gate. They each change based on the day, and thankfully there will be a shimmering effectoverlooking the date Saturday 15th and the number 238. Enter 238 into the entrance lock and Coffee World is free to enter.

This shimmering effect is Polaris, a character that assists Jesse in finding her brother in Control. Polaris will continue to highlight things for Jesse in this episode, including where to go next and where to look in certain spaces.

Entering this code will open the gate, and allow Jesse to start her small journey in Coffee World. Eventually, after meeting a local cop and fighting her way through the theme park, Jesse will have to complete some tasks to open a nearby warehouse.

The second task to open the warehouse requires a number: the ideal coffee cooking temperature for Dark Triangle Coffee. Considering the layout of the theme park, head to the Roasting Bar. This area has the code, but it requires some math to figure out.

Three posters line the wall, each talking about Dark Triangle coffee and how it is made. They don't say the temperature exactly, but each gives a hint as to how to get the ideal number.

Poster one mentions that the temperature is greater than the sum of the sole triangle on it, meaning that the number has to be greater than 180, the total degrees a triangle must have. Poster two says that the first digit of the temperature is half of the second one, while the third digit is one less than the second digit. Lastly, the third post mentions that the temperature is below 500 degrees.

The third poster also contains two other key pieces of information to solve this puzzle. First is the title of the poster: This is coffee at its prime. Jesse even mentions when reading the poster in detail that the number is a prime number; a number that can only be divided by itself and the number one without having a remainder.

The second hint is the second sentence of the poster. It mentions that the number 500 is also the number of light years between Earth and Planet X-13.

On the table across from the posters, there is a notepad showing someone else's work trying to solve this puzzle, crossing out the potential answers of 121 and 243.

All this information means that there is only one true answer: 487. The number matches all the rules, as it is greater than 180 and less than 500, and works with the rules that the second poster sets. 487 is also a prime number, and for the observant folk, it even works with the small hidden math formula on poster three. Planet X-13 can also be seen as x-13, where x would be 500. 500 minus 13 gives you 487.

Put the code 487 in the lock on the coffee grinder to the left to confirm the answer, then go back to the warehouse to continue the story. This is arguably the toughest puzzle of all three episodes in the Night Springs DLC, as it brings math to the forefront in a game that is normally all about writing and survival.
